ICU baby Celebrates One Year Anniversary

by Bryant Figueroa on Dec 27, 2016

In a most beautiful way to wrap up the year, ICU baby - a non-profit organization that provides support to families with babies in the NICU - Celebrates its One Year Anniversary at the NICU of South Miami Hospital.

Baby K'tan is proud to support ICU baby in their efforts.

Each year, thousands of newborn babies in South Florida are admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) because of premature birth or illness. Most of these families never imagined they would spend time in a NICU or that they would not take their baby home. The experience for all of these NICU families is traumatic. ICU baby works with NICU physicians, nurses and social workers to assess the needs of the families with babies in their unit. Together, they identify what resources would be most beneficial and provide targeted support.

November 2016 marked the one year anniversary of ICU baby's collaboration with South Miami Hospital's (SMH) NICU. Since the program's launch in November 2015, ICU baby has delivered over 125 Preemie Packs, provided over 75 Baby K'tans, served 8 Suppers of Support and provided bedside parent-to-parent support to countless families fighting for their premature or sick newborns. ICU baby volunteers have been humbled by the strength of the South Miami Hospital NICU families that they have met and inspired by the SMH medical staff. In January 2017, ICU baby will expand its Preemie Pack project to include all babies whose stay in the NICU will be four (4) weeks or more.
