Introducing the Baby K'tan Baby Carrier

by Bryant Figueroa on Nov 01, 2018

November 1, 2008 (Hollywood, FL) Wearing your child will result in beneficial, permanent brain changes, enhancing baby’ s IQ, in addition to long term benefits of good health, psychological security and independence, according to studies done by Lozoff & Brittenham, 1979, Meyer & Anderson, 1999 & Hunziker and Barr's,1986.

The industry has coined it "the year of the sling" with so many carriers on the market. The Baby K’ tan Baby Carrier, however, is the first carrier to combine all the essential qualities the others offer plus more! Allowing you to wear and nurse your baby without hassles, twisted material, hardware or confusing attachments, while at the same time offering enhanced security and the added bonus of a built in nursing cover.

Get rid of the wrapping! Bye bye to the buckles, and sayonara to the snaps! It’s time to get your hands on the baby carrier wrap that’s both highly recommended by medical experts for special needs babies and raved about by parents of all babies.

Perfect for preemies, babies with developmental delays, the Baby K’ tan is an exceptionally secure cross between a soft sling and a structured front carrier.

There is no other baby carrier wrap like it. It is a one-of-a-kind Double Sling Design!

That’ s why you’ ve seen it featured on Daytime and in Redbook, People, Miami Herald, Urban Baby, iVillage, S. Fl Business Journal, Parent & Family, MetroKids, and Fit Pregnancy. In less than 2 years on the market, Baby K’ tan has been voted "Best Dad Carrier" by GreatDads.com, received Creative Child Magazine’ s 2007 Seal of Excellence, and was winner of the readers choice award in Pregnancy & Newborn.

Actress Sara Gilbert, nominated for two Prime Time Emmys, loves the Baby K’ tan and uses it all the time to carry her baby!

Andrew S. Rubin, PhD, child psychologist & professor in child development and infant mental health at NSU, states "studies have proven that wearing your baby will facilitate mental growth and development, and using a Baby K’ tan will promote the carrying for much longer due to its versatile functionality, ease of use & strength limit, as compared to the other carriers on the market."

The secret behind Baby K’ tan’ s unparalleled ease, security, and comfort is its unique two-loop design, which allows parents to carry their infants and toddlers (from birth to 4 years old) in eight different positions. Available in 100% cotton and soon organic, every Baby K’ tan also has a built-in back support band to keep mom and dad as comfortable as baby.

And this unique double-sling is not just about comfort: every Baby K’ tan comes with a matching baby hat and Sash with pocket, and soon to include an original children’ s book!

The Baby K’ tan Baby Carrier was developed by two couples, each raising three kids in Florida. One family has a child with Down syndrome and the other has a child who required heart surgery when he was four weeks old. The four parents - a day trader, a biologist, an aeronautics salesman, and an attorney -- were driven to create Baby K’ tan when none of them could find an existing baby carrier that suited their babies’ needs.

The Baby K'tan team proudly devotes a percentage of its proceeds from every carrier sold to the American Heart Association and to organizations that assist individuals and families living with Down syndrome.

The Baby K’ tan Baby Carrier is available at boutiques across America and online. Visit www.babyktan.com, call 866-YES-KTAN, or e-mail info@babyktan.com. One baby carrier...all the answers!

About Baby K’tan, LLC

The inventors of the Baby K’tan Baby Carrier are two young couples who are each raising three children in Hollywood, Florida. They developed their baby carrier wrap, which is currently patent pending, to accommodate their children’s special needs and medical issues.

Michal & Brian Chesal’s oldest son, Coby, was born with Down syndrome. In addition to his developmental delays, Coby was born with hypotonia (low muscle tone) and was adversely affected by forward facing carriers which placed his legs too far apart. Unable to find a comfortable and appropriate baby carrier on the market, the Chesals partially modified existing carriers to provide a position where Coby could face forward and see the world while having his legs in a more developmentally appropriate posture.

Isaac and Aviva Wernick’s youngest son, Eitan, was born with a serious heart defect and underwent a successful heart operation when he was four weeks old. After his surgery, Eitan was fragile and sensitive to pain. The Chesals lent the Wernicks their modified carrier so that they could comfortably carry Eitan. Over dinner one night, the two families began discussing ways to further improve upon the carrier. Thus, the Baby K’tan - meaning "Little Baby" in Hebrew - was born!

Baby K’tan, LLC is firmly committed to causes that benefit the wellbeing of children with special needs. Accordingly, the Baby K’tan team proudly devotes a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of every Baby K’tan Baby Carrier to the American Heart Association and to organizations that assist individuals and families living with Down syndrome.

Questions and Answers About Baby K’tan

Questions for Michal Chesal, President of Baby K’tan Baby Carrier

Q: The first thing we really want to know is why wearing your baby is so popular these days?
Well simply put all the research done by medical experts clearly tells us that wearing your baby improves your baby’ s mental, physical & emotional development. An added plus is that it helps with the bonding process while giving the adult some freedom.

Q: It seems like there are already so many baby carriers out there! Why did you feel a new one was necessary?

We basically created the Baby K’ tan out of necessity, desiring a baby carrier wrap that was comfortable for us and our children, easy to use, and offered various carrying positions that allowed us to carry our children longer. While other baby slings & carriers are often thrown in the back of a closet after a while due to discomfort, complicated to use, limited positions or weight limit, the Baby K’ tan is the energizer bunny, outlasting the others. Children will benefit from being carried longer in it.

Q: Can you explain what you meant by "necessity" being the reason behind Baby K’ tan?
The Baby K’ tan was invented out of sheer necessity by four of us: two couples, each with a special needs baby in our family. My husband and I started tinkering with existing carriers because our son, Coby, was born with Down syndrome. His hypotonia (low muscle tone) meant that the standard, forward-facing structured carriers were adversely affecting his muscular development. A physical therapist insisted we stop using them. We were bummed because we wanted Coby to be able to see the world while I carried him!

Q: So why not use a sling?
Actually, we did try a one shoulder sling for a little while, but it put too much pressure on my shoulder, had no back support, and I felt like I always had a bunch of fabric hanging off me. Plus, I never felt like he was secure. I always had one arm wrapped around him, which defeated the whole purpose.

Q: How is the Baby K’ tan different from other carriers?
What sets it apart is our patent-pending double sling design. It’ s remarkably easy to use, while also being more secure than most. The figure 8 shape has a sliding back support band, making us different than the common slings on the market, as it rests on both your shoulders and supports your back, while giving you more options for wearing positions.

Q: And why is it easier to use?
No wrapping, no rings, no snaps, no buckles, no nothing. Put it on and go. This makes it very popular with dads, in particular.

Q: Is the Baby K’ tan only for special needs kids?
Not at all! While it’ s great for them -- and for preemies -- it’ s perfect for every kid. You can carry a child comfortably until he’ s three to four years old. It’ s great for nursing, for traveling, for --

Q: What was your first step in creating the Baby K’ tan?
We received a gift from someone overseas and it was sort of like having two slings. We thought, "this is better," but it still wasn’ t amazing. So we had a seamstress make two slings out of a softer cotton and then connect them. It was great! Suddenly, we had this makeshift carrier and Coby could sit facing forward, pouch-like, but secure. He was in it all the time: on the street, at home. I was a day trader at the time, and I’ d be at the computer with him in the carrier. I can’ t tell you how many comments we got from people on the street. Everyone, I mean everyone we passed wanted to know where we’ d gotten this amazing carrier.

Q: Is that when you started thinking about a business?
No. What happened was, our good friends - she’ s an attorney, he was a biology researcher - had a son born with a serious heart defect. He had surgery before he was four weeks old, and that left him fragile and very sensitive to pain. So we insisted they try our homespun carrier. They loved it, and they had the same experience we had - they couldn’ t make it down the street without constantly being asked where they’ d gotten it. They came back to us and said, we really ought to improve upon this concept and sell it.

Q: Who among you had small business experience?
Not a single one of us.

Q: How’ s the friendship faring?
Just fine! At least one night a week for the past few years, we’ ve held Baby K’ tan meetings at one of our houses. The six kids play while we deal with patents, trademarking, testing, and everything else that comes with launching a new product. We received our first shipment in March 2007, and launched in April. Baby K’ tan’ s instant popularity has been staggering, but absolutely wonderful.

Q: Any famous folks sporting the Baby K’ tan?
Sarah Gilbert is a satisfied customer! The Dempsey & Cross twins have their own monogrammed K’ tans! Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie received two for their twins, and Laila Ali just sent me a thank you note.

Q: What does Baby K’ tan mean, anyway?
K’ tan is a play on words meaning "little" in Hebrew, so, taken together, the whole name means "little baby."

Q: Is the fearsome Florida foursome cooking up any other products?
Yep. You’ ll have to check back in a few months...
